Strategies for a trouble-free moving day

To help our customers enjoy a stress-free moving experience, we decided to make a guide with the best practices for having a hassle-free moving experience. Our moving experts recommend the following tips:

Properly mark cartons! For local moving, use a permanent marker and write on the box the room they are going to, and a list of content is recommended for locating the carton you need after the move has been completed.

Regarding packing clothing, try emptying dresser drawers into luggage or cartons, and keeping out several sets of clothing for each family member in their own accessible duffel bag, along with needed toiletries, pajamas and a toy or two for children. We recommend that you invest in wardrobe boxes to hang closet contents. These boxes make it relatively simple to transport and unpack each person’s closet.

You want breakable items to be as protected as possible. Put padding on the inside walls of the boxes itself will help reduce the possibility of damage.

We highly recommend that you rent plastic moving boxes. It makes moving easier for everyone plus it's good for the environment.

Have several cartons ready as you go from room to room. Use boxes that can be stacked or carried. A good rule of thumb is that if it’s too heavy for you to lift, there might be too much in the box.

Use your largest cartons for the softest, lightest-weight items. Don’t hesitate to make use of small linens and towels for packing breakable items between pieces of art if you run out of packing paper.

Pack breakables and books in smaller moving cartons. Books, dvds and other items that weigh a lot should not be placed into larger boxes because they will not be able to handle the weight.

Pack tools in little boxes with inventory listed on the box, so items can be easily located when unpacking.

Do not pack items considered to be dangerous goods: Moving companies are prohibited from moving these items. This includes: Gasoline; propane tanks; oxygen tanks; fire extinguishers; ammunition and all liquid cleaning supplies.

For large furniture products, like beds and tables, we recommend that you disassemble them before the movers arrive. Disassembling and reassembling is part of the full-service package.

Protected furniture with quilted moving pads to ensure their safety.

Shrink wrap appliances and upholstery so it is properly protected for moving.

If you are moving gas appliances, or appliances with water lines; they must be disconnection just before our moving crews arrival.

Freezers must also be emptied and defrosted.

If you plan to move potted plants, these are at your own risk.
