Best Advice for Hiring A Moving Company

When searching around for movers to work with, your decision can make or break your moving experience. We recommend choosing a mover that is professional, reliable, and qualified. Occasionally, it can be challenging for homeowners and renters to discover these qualities when hiring a moving company. In 2018, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) reported 9,256 complaints regarding movers and moving companies that were registered with BBB.

We asked Michael Morrison from Morrison Moving for his tips on how to hire movers. This is what he said.

1. Check Their Online Reputation.

When searching for movers to work with, it's a good idea also to cross-check the business name online. You can accomplish this by using the company name or the name of the mover. You may review the different review sources like the BBB, Google My Business Yellow Pages Home Stars Houzz And Social Media. You can also call the BBB to see if the mover has any complaints against it. Make sure that you check the BBB letter grades for the businesses. These grades are just like a school report card, with “A” being the highest.

2. Get In-home Estimates

It's a great idea to leave yourself sufficient time before moving to get a few estimates. The BBB recommends that people looking for a mover should undoubtedly get at least three in-home moving estimates. In-home moving estimates are reliable, legally-binding estimates. A reputable moving company will never issue a firm estimate over the online or phone. Look out for movers that give verbal quotes. This permits the mover to chance to increase the estimate and some dishonest moving companies may even hold the household goods hostage until payment.

3. Ask Plenty of Questions

If you have questions, make sure that you ask them. It is better to know all the details. Here are some example questions to ask.
Do you have any references?
How long have you been in business?
What happens if there is damage?
What if something goes missing?
What kind of training do you provide?
Is their a deductible if an insurance claim is made?

4. Insurance is a Must

Make sure that your mover gives full-value protection insurance for any lost or damaged possessions. Verify their coverage about electronics and valuable items. Also, learn about what your household insurance will and won't cover during a move.

5.) Payment Options

Identify when and how the payment is required. Various companies require up to a 10% deposit to secure your moving date. Find out what your payment choices are and the payment methods available.

Take steps to safeguard yourself and your family from deceitful business practices. Remember that many professional moving companies are more expensive than random movers found on online classified websites. By doing some research, you can choose an honest company and avoid a moving nightmare. Consider letting Morrison Moving’s professional moving experts handle your move.
